Lead Electrical Hardware Engineer- Avionics Verified today
The Role
You will be the functional manager of the avionics team that designs, manufactures and tests in-house avionics hardware across all Astrobotic product lines. You report to the Electronic Systems Manager and oversee day-to-day tasking and prioritization for individual contributors.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of flight hardware avionics including computing, signal conditioning, control electronics, filtering, data acquisition and command and data handling (C&DH)
- Lead daily operations, scheduling and tasking for the avionics team
- Provide technical and programmatic guidance to internal team members, subcontractors, consultants and partner personnel
- Establish review processes for avionics engineering products prior to release and manufacturing
- Provide subject matter expertise as independent reviewer in subsystem and vehicle phase-gate design reviews
- Define internal work processes and standards for hardware design, circuit analysis, test execution and result documentation
- Drive rapid troubleshooting, failure investigation and resolution of electrical anomalies during component testing, vehicle assembly and environmental testing
- Contribute to avionics product roadmap and R&D prioritization
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in electronics hardware development
- B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience
- Experience in component/LRU electrical design
- Ability to mentor and lead small teams of engineers
- Systems engineering experience for controlling requirements, risks and integration flow
- Schematic and board design proficiency using Altium, Eagle, OrCAD or similar tools
- Rapid prototype development skills
- Strong debugging skills
- Experience with communications protocols such as RS-422, RS-485, CAN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART
- Digital, analog and signal conditioning design skills
- Good communication and technical writing skills
- High proficiency with MS Office tools
Desired Qualifications
- Experience developing spacecraft electronics systems for Class D unmanned spacecraft or similar
- High-speed digital printed circuit board design experience
- Experience implementing VITA VPX or SpaceVPX standards (VITA 46.0, VITA 65.0, VITA 78.0)
- Microsoft Project, JIRA or similar task management and scheduling tools
- Knowledge of Range Safety and Ground Safety electronics compliance
- Proficiency with mechanical CAD tools to develop avionics systems
- Capability in programming FPGAs, microcontrollers, computer processors or graphic processors
- Knowledge of NASA-STD 4001 and NASA-STD 4003
- Knowledge of space environmental tests
- Experience with testing for MIL-STD 461 or similar
- M.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering
