About the role

Astrobotic Technology is seeking a Software & Test Integration Engineer to plan, integrate, and execute software verification and test activities for next-generation lunar landers. You'll work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure mission-critical software performs reliably from lab to lunar surface.

What you'll do

  • Design test plans and procedures to validate spacecraft software and hardware, including rocket engines, inertial measurement units, star trackers, radar systems, sun sensors, thermal controllers, lidar, and guidance, navigation and control algorithms.
  • Develop software testing infrastructure and tests that verify spacecraft systems function consistently across platforms with varying combinations of emulators and hardware.
  • Improve testing infrastructure to support developer and automated testing, enabling tighter integration between developers and testers.
  • Execute test procedures manually where multi-million dollar spacecraft hardware is involved, and report regressions.
  • Expand nightly autonomous tests within the continuous integration pipeline across different test platforms for increased coverage.
  • Write bug tickets when software issues are identified during verification.
  • Develop automatic reporting tools to map failed and passed tests to subsystem-level requirements.
  • Benchmark and analyze spacecraft system performance across all flight modes.
  • Identify and resolve anomalous software behavior in collaboration with developers, engineers and technicians.
  • Manage test regressions, test resources, and software repositories for multiple projects.
  • Perform acceptance tests and trace features back to requirements.
  • Collect, analyze and present test metrics.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree, ideally in a technical field
  • Minimum five years of relevant work experience
  • Proficiency with Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
  • Proficiency with scripting languages such as Python
  • Demonstrated ability to build and test distributed software and/or hardware systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead anomaly investigation activities involving multiple experts

Beneficial qualifications

  • Knowledge of formal software verification and validation processes
  • Proficiency with software configuration management tools such as git
  • Experience with containers such as Docker and virtual machines such as QEMU
  • Experience with Linux and other embedded operating systems
  • Familiarity with coding safety standards such as MISRA-C
  • Familiarity with communication protocols including CCSDS, Ethernet, RS-422, TCP/IP, I2C, QAM, RS-232, Spacewire, CAN, GPIO, IPC, MIL1553, and RS-485
  • Familiarity with electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers
  • Familiarity with electrical circuit dynamics
  • Familiarity with environmental testing such as EMC/EMI and thermal-vacuum testing
  • Familiarity with spacecraft control systems, thermal systems, RF communications, avionics, and power systems
