About the Role

Axiom Space is seeking a Director of Electrical Engineering to lead and mature a centralized Center of Excellence supporting human-spaceflight programs. You will establish unified standards, processes, and best practices across electrical and avionics teams, ensure compliance with NASA requirements for human-rated systems, and scale engineering capabilities across multiple spacecraft and space infrastructure programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the electrical engineering organization, fostering accountability, innovation, and high performance.
  • Build and mentor engineering leadership, with focus on coaching, career development, and succession planning.
  • Set strategic vision for the electrical engineering center aligned with company and program objectives.
  • Establish unified engineering standards, processes, and best practices across all electrical teams.
  • Champion engineering governance, design assurance, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure electrical systems and flight hardware comply with industry standards and mission assurance expectations.
  • Oversee the full electrical engineering lifecycle: requirements, architecture, design, analysis, integration, verification, validation, and certification.
  • Provide technical oversight and decision authority for electrical designs, avionics architectures, power systems, communications, and integrated spacecraft electronics.
  • Drive cross-program coordination to optimize resources and organizational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with NASA centers, commercial clients, and industry partners on mission-critical solutions.
  • Promote adoption of advanced tools, digital engineering methods, and model-based approaches.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline required.
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in engineering field preferred, particularly with aerospace or human-spaceflight relevance.
  • 10+ years progressive electrical engineering experience in aerospace, spacecraft, or human-rated systems.
  • 8+ years engineering leadership experience managing managers and large multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated success leading engineering organizations in complex, mission-driven environments.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement engineering standards, processes, and governance frameworks.
  • Extensive experience with NASA programs, standards, and human-rated system requirements.
  • Direct involvement in full lifecycle development of electrical flight hardware from concept through certification.
  • Experience driving cross-program alignment, resource planning, and organizational scaling.
  • Strong background collaborating with government agencies and industry partners on mission-critical systems.

Work Environment

Generally an office environment in Houston. Work involves sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
