The Role
As an Avionics Cable Harness Design Engineer III, you'll lead electrical harness design and development for New Glenn's avionics systems. This hands-on 12-15 month fixed-term position involves all aspects of engineering, design, fabrication, installation and test.
Your Responsibilities
- Design electrical harnesses for power distribution, RF, communication and high-speed data signal
- Select harness components, hardware, connectors, backshells, cable and wire
- Apply EMI/RFI and harness shielding principles
- Build 3D routed harness data files using Creo Cabling and Routed System Designer (RSD)
- Create harness detail and installation drawings including 2D flat harness drawings from 3D harness data
- Design and integrate harness support brackets
- Support design configuration development and trade studies
- Provide technical guidance for hardware installation
- Support assembly and testing of cables and harnesses
- Maintain and report on activity schedule and technical status
- Identify opportunities for improvements and cost and schedule savings
Required Qualifications
- B.S. degree or higher in Mechanical or appropriate engineering field
- 5+ years of experience designing wire harnesses for the aerospace industry
- Experience with Creo and Windchill and Routed System Designer (RSD)
- Understanding and application of wire derating analysis
- Familiarity with harness standards: IPC/WHMA-A-620A, NASA-STD-8739.4
- Strong electrical and mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software
Desired Qualifications
- 7+ years of applicable industry experience in launch vehicles, satellites, aircraft, or defense electronics
- Experience with high-end CAD routing software such as Unigraphics NX Electrical and Mechanical Routing
- Knowledge of harness fabrication and installation processes
- Experience with launch vehicle or spacecraft electrical/mechanical systems
Compensation
Base pay range for Washington applicants: $130,706.00 - $182,987.70. Other site ranges may differ.
