Electrical Engineer II (Fixed Term) – New Glenn Avionics Verified today
This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable and designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
You will own end-to-end product development as a responsible engineer of LRUs (Line Replaceable Units). These LRUs are critical components of New Glenn and control significant functions including hydraulics, thrust vector control, fins, ordnance, sensors, and valves. You'll interface with design, test, systems, integration, software, and control engineering disciplines throughout the entire product lifecycle from conception to flight-ready hardware.
Responsibilities
- Own the development and integration of LRU assemblies for Embedded Controllers that control various subsystems on the New Glenn rocket such as electromechanical/electrohydraulic actuators and sensors
- Own qualification testing at the integrated assembly level in extreme environments including radiation, temperature, vibration, and EMI/EMC per MIL-STD-461 and DO-160 standards
- Support stakeholders with requirement definition and verification activities
- Apply technical expertise to problem solving throughout product lifecycle including concept, definition, design, verification (power-on, functional, acceptance, and qualification testing) and release to production
- Support avionics embedded controller architecture trade studies, analyses, performance characterization, specification, device selection, and controller roadmap direction
- Collaborate with avionics subsystems to identify current technology capabilities, risks, opportunities, challenges and develop solutions
Requirements
- Minimum B.S. in electrical, computer engineering, or related field
- 3 or more years developing and testing complex hardware equipment over the entire product lifecycle
- Direct hands-on experience developing complex electronic assemblies with expertise in systems integration and qualification testing
- Passion for hands-on problem solving and avionics integration and test
- Ability to work independently on rapid development programs
- Familiarity with ethernet, SPI protocols, complex computational devices to monitor sensors and drive actuators, analog/digital filters including design, development, and verification
- Highly organized, safety and quality conscious, with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Graduate degree in related engineering or technical field
- Experience developing and testing complex electronic systems combining hardware, firmware, and software
- Experience developing and testing real-time embedded systems with a focus on modular and extensible architectures
- Experience testing hardware to MIL-STD-461, DO-160, or similar environmental standards
- Experience developing and testing safety and mission-critical systems (automotive, aerospace, medical) aligned with DO-254 or similar standards
- Proficiency with Python, Linux/Windows shell scripting, assembly language, C, C++, MATLAB, Simulink, or SPICE
- Experience using Altium, Cadence OrCAD, Allegro, or similar tools to design complex aerospace boards
Compensation and Benefits
Base pay range for WA applicants: $107,136.00 to $149,990.40. Other site ranges may differ.
