Fluid and Propulsion Design Engineer III – Lunar Permanence Verified today
About this role
This position is part of Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit, developing Blue Moon landers and sustainable infrastructure for crew and cargo transport to the lunar surface. You will design propulsion fluid systems for the MK2 Lander and its test articles, working directly with NASA and National Team Partners on the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program.
What you will do
- Generate CAD models for propulsion fluid system hardware and tube assemblies for flight and ground testing
- Release Model Based Definition (MBD) of fluid assemblies and assembly drawings, performing drawing checks
- Lead design configuration management of the fluid and propulsion system, ensuring consistent baseline and successful vehicle integration
- Coordinate with vehicle teams on interfaces and joint design solutions
- Lead design for manufacturability efforts for fluid component assemblies
- Perform basic structural analysis on fluid system hardware
What you need
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field
- 8 or more years of experience designing tubes, fluid components, engine assemblies, and test rigs
- 3D modeling and drawing generation in Creo for fluid assemblies with significant tube routing experience
- Design experience with welded tube assemblies for aerospace systems and knowledge of aerospace fluid system design standards
- Experience with large assemblies
- Structural hand calculations and analysis using tools such as ANSYS
- Ability to interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Expertise in ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerance
- Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships
- U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum
Desired qualifications
- Familiarity with ground systems design standards
- Experience with ProEngineer/Creo, Windchill, and ProPiping
- Design experience with propulsion test fixtures, tooling, and ground systems
- Cryogenic systems experience
- FEA analysis experience with ANSYS
- Advanced Engineering degree
Compensation and location
Base pay range varies by location. Colorado applicants: $110,938.00 to $155,312.85. Washington applicants: $121,023.00 to $169,432.20. Other site ranges may differ.
