About the role
Support the development and operations of New Glenn, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. You will work on systems engineering for the New Glenn Upper Stage and Payload Accommodations Program, engaging in trade studies, margin development, risk management, gated reviews, system safety analysis, and regulatory compliance.
As an operations integrator, you will be the authority on all aspects of your fluids subsystem, including CONOPS, functional architecture, components, software, and integrated interactions. You will follow component hardware and autonomous software development, conduct integrated testing, and feed lessons learned into the flight vehicle. You will collaborate with the stage-level Vehicle Operations Integration lead and create operational constraints, alerts, and limits for the New Glenn integrated test and launch teams.
Responsibilities
- Support Vehicle and Ground System Project Leads by carrying out systems engineering activities in accordance with Blue Origin standards
- Develop and implement verification plans and strategies for requirements completion
- Author, decompose, and trace requirements; manage verification
- Negotiate interfaces and coordinate between internal and external customers
- Author operations documents defining product testing, lifecycle, maintenance, and critical performance interfaces
- Define operational constraints for safe handling and successful subsystem operation
- Develop and maintain detailed CONOPS for pre-launch and flight operations
- Collaborate with integrated test, launch operations, and autonomous flight operations teams to incorporate constraints into procedures and flight plans
- Provide real-time on-console engineering support for integrated tests, launch and recovery operations with troubleshooting
- Conduct post-flight data reviews for the fluids subsystem
Minimum qualifications
- B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace engineering or other technical field
- 5+ years current technical hands-on experience in fluids, thermal, propulsion, cryogenics, or pneumatic systems
- Technical hands-on experience in at least one of: analysis, design, testing, launch operations
- Hands-on experience developing, authoring, and implementing integrated tests or operating launch vehicles
- Ability to operate effectively under time pressure with partially defined requirements
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in teams and lead through influence
- Systems engineering experience on launch vehicles, spacecraft, or other highly regulated industries
- Experience writing and consuming requirements
- Ability to operate, make decisions, and lead in ambiguous environments
Preferred qualifications
- Launch vehicle controller experience (front room or engineering back room)
- Experience with system safety products and processes
- Systems engineering and integration experience with aerospace hardware
- Knowledge of current systems engineering processes and methodologies
- Experience with DOORS Next Generation or equivalent requirements management software
- Experience in reliability, maintainability and operability analysis
- Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
Compensation
Base pay ranges by location: Colorado applicants $110,938 to $155,312.85; Washington applicants $121,023 to $169,432.20. Other site ranges may differ.
