About the role

You will design, analyze, and implement engineering test plans and procedures for board-level electronics products, including power, digital, and RF electronics. Working with multi-disciplinary teams, you will architect test systems, draw insightful conclusions from test results, and participate in design-for-test planning from early product development stages.

You will present engineering design review materials to customers and executives, and participate in proposal writing. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and execute tests at prototype, qualification, and acceptance stages
  • Plan and execute board-level verification tests, including high-speed signal integrity, digital link characterization, power supply performance, and performance over temperature
  • Design systems for testing complex integrated hardware and software, such as phased array products combining radios, computers, and antennas
  • Write test software to interface with devices under test and test equipment
  • Develop test requirements and write hardware test plans and procedures
  • Design test architectures including equipment selection, test fixtures, data logging, and interfaces
  • Advise design engineering on design-for-testability
  • Troubleshoot and debug hardware and software issues
  • Train technicians and operators to perform tests
  • Design tests for compliance with standards such as NASA GEVS (GSFC-STD-7000)
  • Evaluate and document test results for stakeholders
  • Guide equipment purchasing decisions and contribute to lab buildout and management
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of in-house tools and documentation

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Electrical Engineering or similar from an accredited university
  • 9 years of industry or university research experience in design, analysis, and implementation of electronic products and/or test systems
  • Experience designing and executing test plans for custom board-level electronics
  • Hands-on experience with lab instruments: digital oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF signal generators, and vector signal analyzers
  • Programming or scripting experience, such as Python
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred experience

  • Board-level hardware design
  • Aerospace industry experience
  • Designing test racks for automated testing
  • EMI/EMC test design and execution
  • Understanding of RF and mixed-signal hardware (amplifiers, filters, ADCs/DACs, antennas)
