The Role

As an Electrical Ground Support Equipment Technician II, you will work with engineers and technicians at Firefly's test site to develop and test industry-disruptive launch vehicles. You will wire instrumentation, troubleshoot systems with minimal supervision, and support rocket propulsion testing. This role is located at our rocket test and manufacturing facility in Briggs, TX, north of Cedar Park.

Responsibilities

  • Make cable harness assemblies for test operations and various testing projects
  • Perform instrumentation checkouts for test operations
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation and control system problems
  • Calibrate and troubleshoot valve feedback signals
  • Terminate Military Specification connectors
  • Build junction boxes with instrumentation and control terminations
  • Assemble, install and wire prototype, developmental and production electrical and electronic assemblies, sub-units, boards, and harnesses for propulsion products
  • Install connectors, pins, terminals and lugs
  • Perform continuity checks and locate wiring errors using ohmmeters and sequential continuity checkers
  • Connect, verify and specify pressure transducers, thermocouples and other sensors
  • Set up and specify power supplies for sensor excitation voltages
  • Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, drawings and engineering sketches
  • Perform layout and wiring of instrumentation I/O breakout panels
  • Collaborate with test engineers to troubleshoot failures and issues from test data
  • Commission instrumentation and control systems
  • Perform basic VFD and PLC diagnostics

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of electrical technician experience
  • Demonstrated propensity for hands-on work and attention to detail
  • Training and/or experience with oscilloscope and multimeter operation, soldering wires and connectors, crimping tools, wire stripping, Ohm's law, continuity testing, military type connector pinning, cable routing and tie wrapping, drilling and tapping holes, and junction box building
  • Software and computer skills including Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Expertise with instrumentation: Resistance Temperature Devices (RTDs), strain gages, load cells, displacement transducers, pressure transducers
  • Experience with National Instruments DAQ systems
  • Experience configuring CAN Bus Digital Sensors, valve controllers and thermocouple scanners
  • Background with DC power supplies, DC-DC convertors, UPS installations, heat shrink tubing, cable harnessing, lacing and proper strain relief concepts

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of signal conditioning concepts for sensors including thermocouple Types K and E, TC bonding concepts (resistance weld and adhesive bond), TC probes through thermowell sheaths, and cold junction compensation concepts
