Logos Space is building a Low Earth Orbit satellite system designed to deliver high-performance, resilient connectivity to enterprise and government customers worldwide. The system extends cloud and data center network connectivity to fixed, seaborne and airborne terminals globally.
The Role
The Director, Modem Engineering is a high-visibility leadership position responsible for conceiving, planning and executing waveform designs, protocol stack designs, and analysis, fixed-point design, implementation, integration and test across the entire Logos payload, terminal and ground systems.
You will define and scale the modem engineering function, build and lead the team, and own production readiness of the system design. You will work through hardware and firmware platform choices to deliver the best modem and protocol stack outcomes at maximum program speed. You will report directly to the CEO.
This is a fast-moving environment where you take vague ideas and turn them into executable actions for integration and systems test teams.
Responsibilities
- Own overall waveform, stack and modem platform decisions, implementation, integration and subsystem testing across all payloads and operating conditions
- Ensure production quality and flight readiness of the Logos Space system from a functional and performance perspective
- Design waveforms and receivers to operate payloads across a wide range of conditions
- Own modem and protocol stack design and testing timelines from conception through all development phases
- Conceive, plan and build labs for baseband subsystem testing of transmitter and receiver hardware to scale properly
- Plan software and hardware releases for modem and protocol stacks before first launch and across multiple future generations
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or STEM field with significant experience in system design, integration and test of large hardware and software systems
- Minimum 15 years designing waveforms, modems and receivers, with proven ability to solve hard technical problems
- Significant professional experience building and managing teams, especially in startup environments
- Significant experience planning functions and owning full operational function scope
- Significant experience in satcom and/or terrestrial wireless system design, integration and test
- Hands-on software or hardware experience in assembly, integration and test in professional or academic settings
- Proven track record taking systems through entire product life cycle from conceptual design and trade-offs through detailed design, development, manufacturing, integration, testing, deployment and operations
- Strong organizational, written and oral communication skills and experience working with other strong functional leads
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D in Engineering, Computer Science or STEM field with significant system design and integration experience
- 15+ years with wireless systems design, integration and test
- 5+ years leading system integration and test teams
- Experience in fast-paced startups
- Experience building teams in small company context
- Experience delivering products to production
