Your Role
You will design, build, test, and manage state-of-the-art satellite RF payload electronics for secure and jam-resistant communications. You own the hardware that flies in space, from vague design concepts through production readiness. You will perform trade studies, select and manage vendors, design RF hardware, execute tests, and guide your system to flight.
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical design, analysis, validation, and ownership of a satellite payload RF chain, including limiters, filters, switches, low noise amplifiers (LNAs), power amplifiers (PAs), up/downconverters, mixers, local oscillators (LOs), phase-locked loops (PLLs), splitters/combiners, transmission lines, and baluns
- Own product delivery timeline through entire lifecycle: requirements definition, design, prototype build and test, production build and test, system integration, and on-orbit operations
- Assess power and signal integrities, EMI/EMC issues
- Develop and execute RF test plans for component and system-level validation
- Collaborate on qualification and acceptance test campaigns for space environments (vibration, thermal, TVAC, radiation) per MIL-STD-461 and SMC-S-016
- Manage and perform hardware integration and test on the spacecraft
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field with focus on RF and/or millimeter wave hardware
- Minimum 4 years experience in RF or millimeter wave hardware design, analysis, and testing
- Design and characterization experience with active and passive RF analog components (limiters, filters, switches, LNAs, PAs, up/downconverters, mixers, LOs, PLLs, splitters/combiners, transmission lines, baluns)
- RF circuit simulation tools (Keysight ADS, Cadence AWR Microwave Office)
- Multilayer PCB design, layout, and manufacturing (Altium or similar)
- RF test and measurement tools: vector network analyzers (VNAs), spectrum analyzers, signal generators, software defined radios (SDRs)
- Detailed knowledge of EMI/EMC/ESD mitigation techniques for RF hardware
- Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with RF/millimeter wave focus
- Minimum 6 years professional experience in RF or millimeter wave hardware design, analysis, and testing
- Experience with electrical hardware and avionics for space through full product lifecycle
- Design and test experience for space environments per SMC-S-016 or MIL-STD-461, including thermal management, vibration, radiation effects, and reliability
- Power electronics for biasing RF circuits
- Full RF communications system knowledge: baseband to RF antenna, link budgets, digital signal processing (DSP), field programmable gate arrays (FPGA), high-speed digital, clock trees, SPI, ADCs, DACs
- Electromagnetic, passive RF, and antenna simulation (Ansys Electronics Desktop HFSS)
- RF hardware design and testing above 17 GHz
- Waveguides and traveling wave tube amps (TWTAs)
- Test automation and data processing with Python or MATLAB
- Mechanically steered and electronically steered antenna systems
