About Lynk
Lynk invented satellite direct-to-phone technology and holds the world's only commercial FCC license for sat2phone. Our system lets mobile subscribers send and receive text messages via standard unmodified phones from anywhere on Earth. We operate in over 30 countries with 40+ mobile network operator contracts covering 50 countries.
The Role
As Flight Software Engineer, you will develop flight software applications for commanding and controlling our satellites. Your work covers the satellite command and data handling system, payload and radio communications functions. You'll test software on our flatsat prototype that simulates orbit operations, and build the telemetry and instrumentation needed to verify and validate all flight software functions.
We build spacecraft fast. You'll work on rapid development timelines, solving unconventional problems alongside experienced engineers in a small team where you own systems early.
What You'll Do
- Design and develop spacecraft flight software systems including Command and Data Handling, Power, Communications, and Guidance/Navigation/Control
- Build Linux applications that run on satellite flight systems
- Create embedded software to interact with satellite devices using CAN, I2C, SPI, RS-422, RS-485 and other protocols
- Implement inter-application coordination using Linux inter-process communication (IPC) mechanisms
- Develop test software for unit, integration, and system testing of flight software
- Build telemetry, instrumentation, and data-capture tooling for flatsat verification and validation
- Participate in design and code reviews to uphold flight software best practices
- Support Operations and Payload teams with unique satellite system demands
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in C, C++, or Rust demonstrated through professional work, significant projects, or open-source contributions
- Willingness to work in the Rust programming language
- Familiarity with Linux and operating system principles
- Experience building software that interacts with hardware devices, or strong systems background with eagerness to work close to hardware
- Understanding of the software development life cycle phases
- Experience writing automated tests for software you build
- Familiarity with Git and CI/CD system fundamentals
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Software, Computer, Electrical, Aerospace, or related engineering field, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Several years of professional software engineering experience
- Network and socket programming experience for telemetry or commanding interfaces
- Experience with inter-process communication (IPC) mechanisms
- Advanced knowledge of Rust programming language
- Familiarity with embedded Linux systems, including Yocto/OpenEmbedded project
- Experience developing and testing software for SmallSats or CubeSats
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop integration and testing
- Experience with Protocol Buffers, ZeroMQ, gRPC, and Systemd
