The Role

As Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will lead design and analysis efforts for multiple programs and complex design activities, potentially serving as a Responsible Engineer. You will manage all aspects of system and component design, development, and integration across deployable space structures and solar array technologies.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Lead design and analysis efforts for multiple programs and complex design activities
  • Conduct trade studies, develop system architectures, and define design layouts
  • Perform system testing, verification, and troubleshooting
  • Analyze and interpret test and simulation data to inform design decisions
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation and reports
  • Represent the organization as prime technical contact on contracts and projects
  • Mentor junior engineers on technical and professional development
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on system design refinement
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex technical challenges

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field (or equivalent work experience, or Master's degree plus 10 years experience)
  • 12+ years related mechanical engineering experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical engineering technical standards, principles, theories, and concepts
  • Ability to solve unusually complex technical problems requiring ingenuity and creativity
  • Ability to work under consultative direction toward long-range goals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years experience in deployable space structures design and analysis
  • Demonstrated expertise in system-level architecture development for spacecraft subsystems
  • Experience with structural performance modeling of deployable mechanisms
  • Experience leading trade studies and architecture selection processes
  • Proven ability to manage complex technical projects from concept to prototype
  • Knowledge of environmental testing protocols for space hardware development and qualification
  • Experience with spacecraft Electrical Power Systems (EPS) and solar array technologies, including power generation, distribution, and management systems
  • Proven track record in high-volume manufacturing with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles

Compensation

Pay range: $167,096-$229,757 annually. Actual base compensation determined case-by-case based on job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, internal equity, and market competitiveness.
