About the Role
This Sr Mechanical Engineer position focuses on electric propulsion systems, requiring three primary qualifications: expertise in electric propulsion, an active TS/SCI security clearance, and vendor management skills.
You will lead design and analysis efforts for complex propulsion systems, potentially serving as a Responsible Engineer. Your responsibilities include:
- Manage system and component design, development, and integration across trade studies, layouts, architecture definition, testing, verification, and troubleshooting
- Analyze and interpret test and simulation data to inform design decisions and identify improvements
- Develop solutions to complex technical problems requiring ingenuity and creativity
- Prepare detailed technical documentation and reports to communicate findings and support project objectives
- Serve as prime technical contact on contracts and projects, working with considerable latitude in determining technical objectives
- Mentor junior engineers on technical and professional development
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop system designs meeting performance and safety requirements
Experience with chemical propulsion systems is also valued alongside electric propulsion expertise.
About You
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience, or Master's plus 6+ years experience)
- Typically 8+ years of related mechanical engineering experience
- Demonstrated expertise in mechanical engineering technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
- Ability to provide solutions to complex technical problems requiring ingenuity and creativity
- Ability to work effectively with considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and solutions
- Active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance required
Preferred qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- Extensive experience with design, analysis, integration, and test methods related to mechanical, propulsion, structures, fluids, and environmental systems at subsystem and component level
- Proficiency with engineering software tools: NX, SolidWorks, ANSYS, or similar, including advanced GD&T and detail drawing standards
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-stakes projects simultaneously and meet challenging deadlines
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail with proven innovative solutions in mechanical engineering
- Superior communication and presentation skills for conveying complex concepts to diverse audiences
- Ability to work independently and within teams with strong leadership and collaboration skills
- Advanced knowledge of manufacturing processes, material sciences, and their impact on mechanical systems
- Experience with end-item or vehicle-level testing and validation, including complex test plan design and execution
Compensation
Pay range: $137,386.00 to $188,926.75. Actual base compensation determined on a case-by-case basis based on job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, internal equity, and market competitiveness.
Requirements
This position requires current, active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required, as non-U.S. Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance.
