Civil Engineer, Land Development (Starship Launch Pad)

Join the launch pad development team to design, build and activate a second orbital launch pad and ancillary infrastructure for Starship at Starbase, Texas (Brownsville/South Padre Island Area).

Responsibilities

  • Own site feasibility and conceptual planning, stormwater management, grading, drainage and utility design, erosion and sediment control
  • Perform all calculations for grading, drainage, stormwater control facilities, water quality, domestic water distribution and underground utilities
  • Drive coordination and design to obtain local, state and federal permits for land development and utility construction projects
  • Manage civil aspects of construction projects in the field, including quality control, conflict resolution and multi-discipline contractor coordination
  • Work with contractors, fabricators and internal clients to develop project requirements, schedule and cost estimates
  • Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1 or more years of professional experience in civil engineering design, analysis and drafting
  • Experience with CAD software (Revit, AutoCAD/Civil3D or equivalent)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in stormwater management, hydraulics, hydrological analysis and site development design
  • Understanding of electrical, piping, geotechnical and surveying disciplines
  • EIT or Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Experience managing major construction projects, including estimating, cost control, scheduling and contractor management
  • Ability to work with urgency in fast-paced, challenging environments

Work Environment

This position is based in Starbase, TX (Brownsville) and requires being onsite. Remote work is not available.

You must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed. Occasional travel may be required.

Physical requirements: stand up to 6 hours per day, sit up to 6 hours per day, walk up to 10 hours per day, climb (ladder/stairs) up to 10 hours per day. Push/pull up to 50 lbs (unassisted) for 15 minutes or less per day. Lift/carry up to 25 lbs (unassisted) for 15 minutes or less per day. Overhead reach up to 3 hours per day. Kneel/crouch up to 3 hours per day. Upper body twist up to 3 hours per day. Ability to work in temperatures over 80 degrees for 6 hours or greater per day.

You must be capable of safely working at heights (up to 500 feet), in confined spaces, using an air purifying respirator, and operating heavy equipment and machinery. You may be required to complete a pre-employment questionnaire and/or physical to confirm these capabilities.
