Development Test Engineer, Battery (Starship Electronics)
Join the Starship Electronics team to characterize and qualify battery cell technologies for next generation vehicles. Working with the Inverter and Battery design teams, you will identify the operating environment for cells and test them under extreme conditions, often pushing past rated capabilities to failure. You will perform testing ranging from electrical analysis such as EIS to multi-disciplinary setups including thermal runaway testing.
Responsibilities
- Create test stand concepts, fabrication drawings, wiring schematics, and instrumentation lists
- Write automation and analysis software to collect and interpret data from test setups
- Supervise integration of test stands including fabrication, mechanical assembly, and data/control systems
- Operate test stands with meticulous attention to detail, as tests have very little margin for error
- Work with design engineers to understand hardware operating parameters
- Provide feedback to design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and test lab teams to drive innovation in reliability
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or engineering discipline
- 1+ years experience with electronic hardware development or software development (academic projects, internships, and professional experience all qualify)
- 1+ years programming experience using Python, MATLAB, or Embedded C/C++
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Electrical circuit design and manufacturing including layout
- Parametric CAD solid modeling experience
- Proficiency with Python
- High attention to detail when designing and operating complex tests
- Interest in learning about battery cell failure modes
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends when necessary
- Ability to lift heavy harnesses and fixtures (approximately 50 lbs)
Compensation
Level I: $100,000 to $115,000 per year
Level II: $110,000 to $135,000 per year
Actual level and salary determined case-by-case based on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
