About the Role
As a Sr. Electrical Engineer on the Starlink team, you will be responsible for electrical hardware failure analysis, PCBA reliability, and quality of the PCBA production process. This is a high-visibility, hands-on role where you will solve systemic production issues, run root cause analysis of failures from end to end, and drive process changes to continuously improve product quality. You will become intimately familiar with the circuits, manufacturing processes, and test procedures for the designs you support.
What You'll Own
- Qualification and test of new electrical designs and SMT manufacturing lines for high volume production
- Hands-on debugging to drive root cause and corrective action of failed phased-array antenna, Wi-Fi router, and power supply PCBAs
- Advanced diagnostic work using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, x-ray machines, logic analyzers, and custom firmware scripts
- Development of tools and identification of equipment to enhance the team's root cause capabilities
- Root cause analysis of PCBA production yield issues and prevention of factory escapes
- Documentation of failure modes and use of data to improve reliability
- Partnership with design, software, test, and manufacturing engineering teams on yield, processes, test coverage, quality, and reliability
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
- 5+ years of experience working with digital or mixed-signal designs, using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, and/or soldering equipment
Preferred Experience
- 1+ years in consumer electronics or similar industry
- Troubleshooting electronics hardware and/or RF communication systems
- Experience with PCBA manufacturing processes and assembly such as SMT reflow, wave solder, and selective solder
- PCBA environmental testing and reliability calculators
- Understanding of PCB schematics and layout tools
- Wi-Fi standards (802.11ax, 802.11ac, 802.11n)
- CPU/FPGA/ASIC circuit boards, linux, high-speed interfaces, memories, and/or low-power platforms
- Mentor Graphics Xpedition
- Programming and automation/scripting languages such as Python, C++, or SQL
- Presenting findings to engineering, production, and supply chain teams
- Experience in fast-paced, iterative design environments in consumer electronics, mobile handsets, medical devices, aerospace, marine, or automotive industries
Requirements
- Must be willing to work long hours and weekends as needed
- 100% onsite work in Bastrop, TX (Austin area). Remote or hybrid work not considered
