This role focuses on the development of turbomachinery for Starship's fluid systems, with the goal of creating high-performance and highly manufacturable interplanetary vehicles. You will design, analyze, and build advanced turbopumps that manage pressurization for Starship throughout all phases of travel to the Moon and Mars, including in-space propellant transfer.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of turbomachinery and manufacturing engineers, driving rapid development and execution of designs for Starship's propulsion system turbomachinery
- Design, build and test turbopumps for Starship
- Own turbomachinery product families as primary hardware owner, from acceptance testing through in-flight performance
- Size turbomachinery components, perform detailed mechanical design, and conduct structural and fluid analysis
- Oversee manufacturing and assembly of turbomachinery parts and systems
- Develop and train teammates to support empowered product ownership utilizing risk-conscious decision-making skills under pressure
- Interface with the production team to ensure designs are successfully translated into manufacturing
- Work collaboratively with commercial and governmental customers to ensure mission success
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
- 5+ years of professional experience in turbomachinery design and analysis (structural and/or fluid)
- Professional experience with 3D CAD modeling, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), manufacturing process and machine setup
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Master's degree in an engineering discipline
