SR. RFIC LAYOUT DESIGNER (RFIC ENGINEERING)
SpaceX is building Starlink, the world's largest satellite constellation delivering fast, reliable broadband to millions worldwide. We design, build, test and operate thousands of satellites, consumer receivers, and the software that connects them all.
In this role, you will lead the layout discipline on a team designing silicon for space and ground infrastructure. You will work with RF and mixed-signal designers on full-chip layout of custom analog and RFIC designs, managing floor planning, power distribution, and tape-out.
Responsibilities
- Work with IC designers and chip leads to determine chip floor plan, power and ground distribution, and pad locations with packaging engineers
- Estimate layout schedules and identify areas of complexity for early investigation
- Perform layout of custom RF and analog circuit blocks with attention to matching and minimizing parasitic capacitance
- Run design rule checking, electrical rule checking and layout versus schematic verification, resolving errors
- Perform top-level layout integration with ESD structures and pad assembly, execute final tape out including density fill, DFM checks and GDS handoff to foundry
- Work with EDA suppliers to trial new tools and features
- Generate guides and demos showcasing layout technique improvements for the team
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering and 5+ years professional IC layout design experience; OR 8+ years IC layout design experience in lieu of a degree
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Strong analog layout skills
- Advanced node IC layout experience (22nm, 16nm, 7nm, 5nm or below)
- Layout of circuits with frequencies up to 50GHz
- Layout of sensitive RF blocks such as low noise amplifiers, voltage controlled oscillators and mixers
- Skill programming
- Shell scripting, Perl, Python or similar languages
- Revision control system management
- Circuit design experience
- Device matching, coupling and noise isolation layout considerations
- Linux working knowledge
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently on challenging problems
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed to meet critical milestones
Compensation
Base salary range: $150,000 - $245,000 (Level 3). Actual salary determined on a case-by-case basis based on job-related knowledge, skills, education and experience.
