About Star Catcher

Star Catcher is building the world's first orbital energy grid: the Star Catcher Network. Spacecraft connect into this network and receive conditioned energy via their existing solar arrays, requiring no retrofit. The network provides power from tens of Watts to tens of thousands of Watts at flux concentrations from fractions of a Sun up to ten Suns.

The Role

You will lead and oversee development, integration, and testing of complex space systems for space-to-space power beaming spacecraft and the Star Catcher Network orbital power grid.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, develop and verify lifecycle-balanced systems and system solutions using an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach
  • Evaluate operational and customer needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters, and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces
  • Perform analyses to optimize total system and system architecture for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, and certification
  • Support planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, and technology readiness
  • Plan and conduct tests to validate that systems meet performance criteria and regulatory standards
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate systems into spacecraft, satellites, and other systems, ensuring material compatibility
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of system designs, testing procedures, and project status
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets related to systems engineering tasks
  • Support business development efforts for proposals and bids

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field (Master's or PhD preferred)
  • At least five years of systems engineering experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment or equivalent
  • Creative problem-solving skills with capability to develop innovative solutions to advanced engineering challenges
  • Experience leading development of space systems for challenging environments and missions
  • Experience with MBSE (Model Based System Engineering)
  • Experience with NASA/DoD lifecycle reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR)
  • Experience with requirement tracking tools

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with configuration management practices
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interface across disciplines
  • Broad background in systems engineering
  • Experience using software tools for complex analyses (Excel, MatLab, custom tools)
