Senior Quality Assurance Engineer Verified today
Turion Space is seeking a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to join our growing team in Irvine, CA. You will help define how we do quality at a foundational moment, building inspection processes, calibration systems, and QMS procedures as we scale, while owning the day-to-day quality operations that keep us compliant and running today.
This role offers high autonomy and real influence over how processes, tooling, and documentation take shape. You will move fluidly between the shop floor and the conference room, reading CMM reports and interpreting GD&T callouts, then negotiating disposition paths with customers or suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
Building and Maturing the Quality Function
- Build and continuously improve QMS procedures, inspection processes, and quality infrastructure as processes and product lines mature
- Monitor quality systems and perform trend analysis to proactively identify systemic issues and design lasting process improvements
NCR and Root Cause Corrective Action
- Work open Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) end-to-end: containment, root cause investigation, disposition, and closure
- Research applicable industry specs and technical data to support disposition decisions and provide resolution guidance to engineering, operations, and program stakeholders
Inspection and Calibration
- Develop and maintain inspection plans, including reviewing GD&T and CMM inspection reports as part of NCR investigations
- Establish and monitor the calibration system to ensure measurement equipment remains compliant and audit-ready
Contracts and Suppliers
- Perform contract review to ensure quality requirements flow correctly from customer to supplier
- Monitor supplier quality performance
Compliance and Continuous Improvement
- Keep the company compliant to applicable aerospace quality standards (e.g., AS9100) and customer contractual requirements; support internal and customer audits as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Engineering, STEM, or related technical field
- 7 or more years of Quality Engineering experience in aerospace/defense manufacturing
- Comfortable working across mechanical, composite, and electrical product lines (software experience a plus)
- Strong working knowledge of GD&T, including the ability to read and interpret CMM inspection reports
- Demonstrated experience with NCR/CAR processes and root cause corrective action methodology
- Experience with inspection process development and calibration systems
- Experience with contract review and flow-down of quality requirements
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 and office tools
- Eligible to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building or standing up quality processes at a growing company, not just operating within a mature system
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (NetSuite/ION) and PLM tools (Arena), plus Jira and Confluence
- Prior audit experience (internal or customer/regulatory)
- Familiarity with supplier quality monitoring and management
