About the Role

You will design avionics systems that interface measurement and actuator components with flight control software. Your hardware will work with valves, pressure sensors, temperature sensors, accelerometers, BLDC motors, and communication buses. You must have a solid foundation in electronics for harsh environments and a desire to build avionics for space applications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mixed-signal designs through the full product lifecycle: requirements definition, design, development, qualification and production release
  • Support avionics architecture trade studies, performance characterization, device selection and roadmap direction
  • Perform de-rating analysis, worst case circuit analysis, FMECA, and system reliability analysis
  • Develop avionics systems that interface with sensors and actuators
  • Support hardware-to-software interface definition for control law and automated test functions
  • Support risk analyses, design for test/manufacture/cost, and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies
  • Participate in program-level technology development, mission and safety objectives, and avionics development process improvements
  • Support rocket engine testing and ground support as necessary

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience delivering flight avionics for aircraft, launch vehicles, or space applications
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field with 10+ years of direct electronics hardware development experience
  • Understanding of analog/digital filtering, mixed-signal circuit design, analysis, and test design
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power, grounding, and board layout principles
  • Understanding of sensor and actuator technologies including RTDs, pressure transducers, DC brushless motors, solenoid valves, thermocouples, hydraulic servo valves, LVDT, RVDT, rotary/linear encoders
  • Working knowledge of EMI/EMC practices and MIL-461, DO-160, or FCC compliance
  • U.S. Person status (U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident) required
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance required

Desired Experience

  • Direct experience in launch vehicle avionics systems integration
  • Graduate degree in related engineering or technical field with 15+ years of direct electronics hardware development experience
  • Demonstrated expertise designing Class 3 board assemblies
  • Use of IPC 6xx and NASA-STD-8739.n or similar standards
  • Proficiency in Altium or similar tools for complex board design; experience with external board manufacturing and assembly vendors
  • Desire to design mission-critical hardware for flight applications
  • Working knowledge of high-reliability, radiation-tolerant, radiation-hardened flight hardware for high altitude and space environments
  • Proficiency with Python, Linux/Windows shell scripting, assembly language, C, C++, MATLAB, Simulink, SPICE or similar
  • Exposure to designing safety or mission-critical aerospace flight hardware compliant with DO-254

Compensation and Benefits

Base compensation: $140,000 to $175,000, determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
