About the Role

You will be a key member of a small talented team refining turbomachinery technology across multiple engine platforms at Ursa Major. You will own portions of the turbopump technology and provide an active voice in engine test and development. You will report to the Manager of Turbomachinery Core Technology.

Responsibilities

  • Support conceptual design and development of new turbomachinery as a subject matter expert in one or more key areas. Perform design trades, preliminary design work and analysis.
  • Collaborate with the Turbomachinery Design team to develop high-performing, state-of-the-art turbomachinery detailed designs that are manufacture-able and flight ready.
  • Support existing Ursa Major turbomachinery to troubleshoot performance or reliability issues in your area of expertise.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 8+ years experience in turbomachinery design and development.
  • 5+ years experience working with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX or PTC Creo.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, startup environment.
  • Significant experience and technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: rotor dynamics; balancing fundamentals; turbine stage aero-mechanical design; hydrodynamic design of pumps or inducers; turbomachinery detailed layout and design.
  • Experience in turbomachinery-related analysis software (ANSYS FEA, CFD or other specialized software).

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience with structural and thermal analysis using ANSYS FEA software.
  • Proficiency with major industry CFD software (CFX, Fluent).
  • Experience in liquid rocket engine design, test or analysis.

Compensation and Employment

Base compensation range: $132,000 to $165,000, determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.

Full-time Exempt position.
