About the role

Voyager Technologies is seeking a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to help shape the future of lunar technologies and missions. Advanced Programs leads the company's earliest stage work, from mission concept definition and long-term technology road mapping to hands-on development of breakthrough technologies that will power the next generation of lunar landers, surface systems, and spacecraft. In this role, you will define end-to-end mission concepts for NASA, government, and commercial customers, directly influencing the technologies and architectures that will drive lunar pursuits.

What you will do

  • Develop and review new concepts and designs of lunar landers, rovers, surface power systems, and spacecraft
  • Perform and review system-level analysis and first order sizing of space systems
  • Develop and manage full spacecraft-level vehicle configurations in CAD, performing preliminary structural analysis, packaging, and sizing from launch through surface operations
  • Design and develop spacecraft structures for lunar landers, orbiters, and rovers
  • Perform preliminary mechanical design and analysis of spacecraft structures and mechanisms, including deployment and offloading fixtures, tipover and stability assessments, and terramechanics evaluations
  • Design and assess payload and subsystem accommodations within complex spacecraft
  • Support development and technical content creation for mission opportunities and internal development programs
  • Translate customer requirements into actionable product goals and system architectures for proposals and customer presentations
  • Develop and perform trade studies to support technical, business, and programmatic decision-making
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional team meetings to ensure engineering solutions comply with mission, business needs, and company technology roadmap
  • Communicate with other engineering disciplines, partners, customers, and vendors to resolve technical risks and challenges
  • Contribute to programmatic topics such as schedules, resourcing, and budget estimations

Required qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar related discipline plus 5-10 years of relevant engineering experience. Relevant advanced degree will be considered in lieu of equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience developing complex mechanical systems at scale
  • Demonstrated experience conducting preliminary structural analysis of space systems
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: space system development, systems engineering, structure/thermal design and analysis, mechanical and fluid systems, and/or manufacturing
  • Experience developing technical content for proposals and external customer presentations
  • Experience authoring and decomposing mission and system-level requirements
  • Strong understanding of the launch, space, and lunar environments

Desired qualifications

  • Understanding of full end-to-end mission solutions
  • Experience with mission architecture development
  • Demonstrated experience writing and reviewing software scripts for automation and analysis
  • Knowledge of NASA/industry engineering standards
  • Demonstrated experience working in an agile environment, using organizational tools such as Confluence and Jira
  • Eligibility to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance

Compensation and benefits

Base salary range: $175,000-$200,000. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive.

Location and work arrangement

This position is based in Pittsburgh, PA and can be either onsite or remote.
