The Role

You will define end-to-end mission concepts and develop thermal designs for lunar landers, rovers, surface power systems, and spacecraft. This position is based in Pittsburgh, PA and can be onsite or remote.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and review concepts and designs for lunar landers, rovers, surface power systems, and spacecraft
  • Perform thermal design and analysis for all mission concepts, right-sizing thermal architecture to meet mission objectives and requirements
  • Identify and develop next-generation thermal management systems for lunar spacecraft
  • Identify and resolve system-level impacts driven by thermal design requirements
  • Develop and perform trade studies to support technical, business, and programmatic decision-making
  • Support technical content creation for mission opportunities and internal development programs
  • Communicate with other engineering disciplines, partners, customers, and vendors to resolve technical risks
  • Translate customer requirements into actionable product goals and system architectures
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings and customer technical interchange meetings
  • Contribute to schedules, resourcing, and budget estimations

What We're Looking For

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related discipline plus 5-10 years of relevant engineering experience (advanced degree may substitute for experience)
  • Demonstrated experience in space system development, systems engineering, structure/thermal design and analysis, mechanical and fluid systems, or manufacturing
  • Experience developing technical content for proposals and customer presentations
  • Experience authoring and decomposing mission and system-level requirements
  • Strong understanding of launch, space, and lunar environments

Desired Qualifications

  • Understanding of full end-to-end mission solutions
  • Experience with mission architecture development
  • Experience writing and reviewing software scripts for automation and analysis
  • Knowledge of NASA and industry engineering standards
  • Experience working in agile environments with tools such as Confluence and Jira
  • Eligibility to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range: $160,000 to $185,000, depending on experience, skills, and location.
